“The time to act is now.”
Dolkun Isa, president of the World Uyghur Congress, about the International Uyghur Forum:
I am delighted to announce the International Uyghur Forum, which will be held on 9 and 10 November 2022 in Brussels, the political capital of the European Union. On behalf of the World Uyghur Congress, I am delighted to welcome renowned international guests, including policy makers, legal experts, NGO representatives, and other civil society allies, to discuss the current situation of the Uyghur human rights crisis, and to talk about how to put an end to these atrocities.
The International Uyghur Forum is held at an important time in our people’s history. After the release of the UN Uyghur report, Verdict of the Uyghur Tribunal and 10 Parliament resolutions including European Parliament resolution on the Uyghur Genocide the real question now is what action the international community will take. The time for empty statements or expressions of concern is over. As the UN has confirmed the atrocity crimes occurring in our homeland, we need to ask ourselves:
What avenues for justice and accountability exist?
What can the UN do against these atrocities?
What can European Union States and other governments do against this genocide and crime against humanity?
And what role can civil society play in all of this?
These questions will be at the heart of the International Uyghur Forum. By bringing together renowned international guests who have been at the forefront of calls to end the Uyghur Genocide, we hope to find at least some of the answers that lead to ending the suffering of millions of Uyghurs.
